Project Description:
The imaging papyri project is seeking to apply chemical and imaging techniques to discover what is written on the Oxyrhynchus Papyri. The Papyri are from a burnt library discovered at Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. They have produced and online searchable database of images of the papyri and also have tools for users to arrange papyri fragments on the website. The technique has provided the tools necessary to recover literary fragments which throw new light on ancient myths, including that of Narcissus. This site provides an indexed database of the papyri. The database contains images, descriptions and translations as well as bibliographic details
