Project Description:
The Wandering Jew's Chronicle is a ballad published between 1634 and c.1820, surviving in 22 known copies of 15 editions, held in ten libraries in Britain and the USA. This project aims to deliver an archive containing high-quality surrogates and transcriptions linked to authoritative metadata, based on locally-hosted and remote resources. The archive will display high-quality zoomable images of surrogates and will provide a parallel-text display of all surviving witnesses, together with textual critical and historical notes, based on TEI-P5 encoded transcriptions. This project serves in part as a demonstrator for collation and parallel-display methods that the PI hopes to implement for larger collections of early printed broadside ballads.
