Evening Events 2016

On most evenings of the Summer School there are social events. Please let us know when you register which evening events you would like to attend.

 

Monday 4 July 2016 -- Welcome Drinks Reception and Poster Session

  • Venue: Oxford University Museum of Natural History
  • Times: 19.00-21.00 hrs (posters only from 18.30 hrs)
  • Charge: Free to attend, but booking required.

The Monday evening will be a welcome drinks reception including a peer-reviewed poster session. More information about the poster session and a call for posters will be available when booking opens.

This event is free for DHOxSS delegates and speakers to attend but should be booked when registering. This reception includes drinks and nibbles, but not a full evening meal.

Tuesday 5 July 2016 -- TORCH Public DH Lecture

  • Title: Digital Unwrapping:  Homer, Herculaneum, and the Scroll from Ein Gedi
  • Speaker: Brent Seales (Professor of Computer Science, University of Kentucky)
  • Venue: TBC
  • Times: 18:00 - 20:00
  • Charge: Free to attend, but booking required.

The annual TORCH Digital Humanities lecture is an invited lecture run by the The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities to which DHOxSS delegates are invited.

This event is free but should be booked when registering for DHOxSS to ensure a place. TThis year's speaker is yet to be finalised, and the date is also yet to be confirmed.

  Wednesday 6 July 2016 -- Walking Tour of Oxford

  • Venue: Central Oxford, meeting at Martyr's Memorial
  • Times: 18:30
  • Charge: Free to attend, delegates will be contacted closer to event

The guide will take you through the heart of the historic city centre illustrating the history of Oxford and its University and describing the architecture and traditions of its most famous buildings and institutions.

There is no additional charge for DHOxSS delegates for this event but there are a limited number of places available.

 

Thursday 7 July 2016 -- DHOxSS Dinner

  • Venue: Exeter College
  • Times: 19:00 (Pre-dinner drinks), 20:00 (Dinner to finish before 22:30)
  • Charge: £57.50

Fresh garden herb & potato soup
Main:
Braised blade of beef with a fricassee of pea, asparagus & wild mushroom with a tarragon gnocchi.
     or
Roast pumpkin tart tatin, poached duck egg, crispy lettuce, herb butter (v)
Dessert:
Warm chocolate fondant, white chocolate and raspberry sherbet sorbet
Coffee & mints

A pre-dinner drinks reception is followed by a three-course meal in a stunning Oxford setting -- this is an event not to be missed!

There is no specific dress code for the event (delegates may choose to dress up, but it is not required). Please inform us if you have any dietary requirements when booking. Email events@it.ox.ac.uk with any questions.

Friday 8 July 2016 -- Informal Pub Trip

  • Venue: Royal Oak 
  • Times: From 17:45 hrs
  • Charge: You must pay for any food or drink you consume

Just after DHOxSS 2016 has finished, many of those involved in the teaching and organisation, and any delegates staying over, will celebrate another successful DHOxSS at the Royal Oak pub.

This is not an official DHOxSS event and you must pay for any food or alcohol you consume.
