Creating an online presence can open up your research and teaching (or any interest!) to a global audience, and is now essential in promoting yourself professionally to the outside world. This one-day workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to online presence and also gives a supported environment for you to plan, create, and add to your own projects. We will look at Humanities-focused funding organisations and impact statements from Oxford’s last REF submission to focus in on what practices are worth serious consideration.
Interwoven with the advice on how to craft your online presence strategically will be hands-on introductions to some of the most useful tools, including the university podcast service and software like Moviemaker/Imovie, Audacity, GIMP, Appmaker, Unity3d, and Google Maps geolocation. By the end of the day you’ll have a high-level grasp of how and why to create an online presence, plus detailed knowledge of how to use relevant tools, take advantage of the Oxford context, measure your success, and manage your presence in a sustainable way.
If you came to the Wordpress website creation session last term, this is an ideal follow-on, but it will also work perfectly as a freestanding course. You’ll need to bring your own laptop, and further instructions for course prep will be circulated nearer the time. Book your place through IT Services at http://tinyurl.com/zto5cmf.
Lunch provided.
